About the Milan Recliner

A manual recliner in mottled olive, with the cream worked into the upholstery as inset bands rather than printed on it: an hourglass across the lower back, one band along the front edge of the seat, and two bands crossing each outer side panel in an asymmetric chevron. The arm bolsters are gathered at their front caps and the kickboard is divided into three panels. The recline is released by a pull-latch set flush into the right side panel.

How it is made

  • Frames are built from plywood and engineered wood, with metal where a piece needs it, such as a recliner's mechanism.
  • Frames are joined with glue and screws, and with mortise and tenon joints.
  • Seats sit on sinuous steel springs, or on the recliner's own mechanism.
  • Cushions are high-density and high-resilience foam, some with a memory foam layer, wrapped in fibre or feather.
