About the Nova Cinema Recliner

A cinema seat that changes material between where it is touched and where it is seen: light grey microfibre over the seat, back and arm tops, dark brown on the outer panels and the back wrap. Both are quilted in a chevron, the outer arm carrying it as one large inset rectangle. A cup holder sits in each arm top and a two-button panel with a USB port on the inside of the right arm. A horizontal seam splits the back into lumbar and upper cushions.

How it is made

  • Frames are built from plywood and engineered wood, with metal where a piece needs it, such as a recliner's mechanism.
  • Frames are joined with glue and screws, and with mortise and tenon joints.
  • Seats sit on sinuous steel springs, or on the recliner's own mechanism.
  • Cushions are high-density and high-resilience foam, some with a memory foam layer, wrapped in fibre or feather.
