About the Captain Power Recliner

A high-backed power recliner in tan leather, distressed enough that the grain reads differently across the hide. The back is two plump cushions divided by a deep horizontal crease, with a single vertical stitch splitting the lumbar section into halves. Track arms run the full depth of the frame and sit straight on the floor. Reclining is powered: a recessed brushed-metal panel in the right arm carries two lit buttons and a USB port, and the footrest extends in two parts on a powder-coated steel scissor linkage.

How it is made

  • Frames are built from plywood and engineered wood, with metal where a piece needs it, such as a recliner's mechanism.
  • Frames are joined with glue and screws, and with mortise and tenon joints.
  • Seats sit on sinuous steel springs, or on the recliner's own mechanism.
  • Cushions are high-density and high-resilience foam, some with a memory foam layer, wrapped in fibre or feather.
